The Red Masquers at Duquesne University is the oldest amateur theater company in Pittsburgh. The company provides an opportunity for students to learn about and participate in theater regardless of their major or background. Majors represented include business, pharmacy, communications, English and more. Membership is open to any student in good academic standing.
The Red Masquers perform a variety of acts throughout the year, including three main-stage performances: one classical, one modern and one contemporary. One of these is an alumni show, in which former members are invited to participate. Additionally, they generally perform two sets of one-act plays, student-written plays, selections from professional playwrights and the group often participates in the Pittsburgh Monologue Project, monologues inspired by actual conversations heard in the city.

Known as the Red Masquers since 1914, the company traces its routes back to the nineteenth century when Duquesne first began offering drama education. Since its founding, the company has given hundreds of performances in several venues and has weathered dramatic changes in its structure, the university and the city of Pittsburgh.



The Masquer Announcement Board (MAB) posts information about the Duquesne University Red Masquers and their activities.  Most of this information is distributed through the email list and then posted here for later reference.  MAB also includes Pittsburgh-area theater news that may be of interest to the Masquers. 

MAB is not the fairies' Midwife, and does not come in shape no bigger than an agate-stone on the fore-finger of an alderman, drawn with a team of little atomies over men's noses as they lie asleep.
